Was Elmer Fudd an Aussie?

Rabbits are not native to Australia and their introduction to the country in 1859 have caused a lot of havoc to the natural environment. In that year, some fool named Thomas Austin released 24 rabbits for target practice and -- guess what -- at least 2 survived and Aussies have been at war with bunnies ever since. Within 10 years, there were millions of rabbits throughout the country and they have chewed their way through untold acres of farm and bush land. Supposedly, it's the largest population of invasive species on the planet (if you don't count humans!). Can't blame the furry little bunnies but Aussies have tried everything from ferrets to bio warfare to poison.

This continues today even in Sydney where I have seen several "bunny poisoning" signs.
